Biography
Singaporean mezzo soprano Peixin Lee studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz (Austria), where she completed her master studies with distinction under the tutelage of Martin Klietmann, Joseph Breinl and Robert Heimann. She has attended masterclasses conducted by Rudolf Piernay, Robert Holl, Anna Tomowa-Sintow, Brigitte Fassbaender, Marjana Lipovšek, Angelika Kirchschlager, Ulf Bästlein and Charles Spencer. In 2016 she was awarded the Begabtenstipendium by the Municipality of Graz and the Honorary Performance Prize by the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz for her musical achievement and contribution.
Peixin is the third prize winner for the vocal category at the "Pancho Vladigerov International Chamber Song Competition 2018" (Bulgaria), where she was also granted the prize for the "Best Performance of Work by Pancho Vladigerov"; and together with her lied-duo partner Petar Karagenov, they clinched the prize for "Best Chamber Duo".
On stage, she has sung roles like the Witch (Hänsel und Gretel), Miss Jessel (The Turn of the Screw), 2. Dame (Die Zauberflöte), Ottavia (L'incoronazione di Poppea), Casiope (Andromeda) and Mrs Gobineau (The Medium). She made her home debut with the Singapore Lyric Opera as La Ciesca (Gianni Schicchi). Her expansive concert repertoire has led her to work with Ornamentum Philharmonicum (baroque ensemble of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra), Schallfeld Ensemble, szene instrumental amongst others.
As an advocate of contemporary vocal repertoire, Peixin has premiered works by composers Americ Goh, Jakob Gruchmann and Christof Ressi. Further engagements include the role Woman 2 in Dmitri Kourliandski’s opera Asteroid 62 at the contemporary music festival Musikprotokoll des Steirischen Herbstes (Graz, 2013); the contemporary opera production “Opern der Zukunft ‒ Im Feuer ihres Blutes” at Graz Opera (2018); Beat Furrer’s Begehren at Teatro Colón (Buenos Aires, 2019) together with vocal ensemble Cantando Admont under the baton of the composer himself. Peixin is a Britten-Pears Young Artist in the Composition and Contemporary Performance programme, where she premiered works by Blaire Boyd and Theo Chandler.
Since Spring 2019, Peixin has been a member of the Hamburg State Opera Chorus.
